 Mike Layne

Mike Layne keeps Blue Ridge looking and smelling great, as he serves God.

At the same time, Mike says he’s learned a lot about God.

“I have grown closer to God watching just how he works in and through people,” he said.

He said he can see God’s hand in bringing him to Blue Ridge. For 12 years, he worked with the Amherst Sherriff’s office in the jail’s kitchen, preparing meals for inmates. At the same time, he accepted God into his life on Dec. 30, 2007 and was baptized March 23, 2008. He began serving on the Clean Team at Blue Ridge.

About a year later, Mike learned the jail would be closing. But God had a better plan for him — to come to work at Blue Ridge!

“It’s awesome seeing just how God moves in and through the body,” Mike said.

Born and raised in Lynchburg, Mike Layne is the youngest of four children.  After high school, he went to work at Lynchburg College for five years and then cooking in a family restaurant for 11.

He said his only pet peeve is fingerprints on glass.

Mike enjoys trout fishing, riding bikes, visiting the beach and watching NASCAR races.
