Talk about a calling…Maria started attending BRCC when she was 4 years old and jumped right into serving with Kidz Community when she was five. Obviously, God knew early on that He had plans for Maria at BRCC!
Maria was born and raised in Lynchburg, but has a longing to travel anywhere to explore new places. Her favorite pastimes include losing track of time while reading a good novel and sitting outdoors admiring nature—sunsets, sunrises, mountains, autumn trees, and clouds. She also enjoys listening to the sounds of ocean waves and wind rustling through the leaves.
Maria’s driven personality doesn’t allow her much time for taking it easy. In her words,“I feel very responsible for what God has allowed me to lead. At times I can become extremely focused, which can be both a strength and a weakness. Because of my achieving-type personality, it’s sometimes hard for me to waste too much time relaxing.”
Although Maria possesses the spiritual gifts of leadership, evangelism, and administration, she is quick to credit the success of KidStuf to an awesome team of volunteers. Her team includes zany and hilarious actors, God-focused and creative teachers, an incredibly gifted technical team, and a loud and AMPED up worship team. She loves seeing the team be all about serving God and others, while laughing and having lots of fun!
Maria says, “Even though I serve in KidStuf, my passion is more with the production for the kids than with the kids themselves. Don’t misunderstand, I love seeing kids encounter God, but that’s why I love finding out what will help them to understand God more. I love researching child development and the newest and hottest items that kids like to talk about. I love to hear the stories about people’s life-changing experiences when they encounter God in a new way.”
