When Jared Dunn was 14, he read an advertisement in a Christian teen magazine about a mission trip. He wanted to go, so he told his mom, raised all the money, and then spent the whole summer with people he’d never met before.
That adventurous spirit helps him in following where God leads. It also gets him in trouble sometimes. When he was a child growing up on a farm, he wrote an essay that helped him win a goat. When the goat had kids, Jared decided to try to head butt one of the kids. Not a good idea. The kids’ horns were already coming in, and it hurt—a lot.
That kind of goes along with one of Jared’s favorite Bible verses, 1 Corinthians 1:27: “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
Jared is full of stories—which serves him well as he writes engaging stories about God for the kids at Blue Ridge. Now the Lead Bible Teacher for Kids Community, Jared said he looks forward to what God has for him next.
“I love that each day is a new adventure. I love that each day I get to experience God in a new way because of the lessons that I get to write,” Jared said.
When he’s not sharing stories about the love of Jesus, Jared enjoys spending time with his family—especially in the great outdoors. He said his love story could be a movie. Knowing Jared, it’s probably one we’d like to see.
