David O'Brien’s life has turned out better than he planned. (Proverbs 16:9 [NIV-1984] says, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.") Born in Boston, Massachusetts, David thought he might grow up to be an actor one day. He was even on a television show as a child.
Though his life has taken some twists and turns, David now uses his journey to help others draw closer to God. Today, as Pastor of Celebrate Recovery, David will tell you that his favorite story is how God has restored him and his family. He shares this beloved Scripture from Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
David counts the day he came to the Lord and his sobriety as the two greatest events of his life. David’s favorite thing about Blue Ridge is “seeing changed lives in an atmosphere where Christ is taught as a relationship that is real, and imperfect people are allowed to grow.”
David came to Virginia 20 years ago, after having lived in Seattle, Washington, for 11 years. He’s been going to Blue Ridge almost his whole time in Lynchburg. He enjoys playing the guitar, performing magic tricks for children, and weightlifting.
He readily admits that he’s not perfect. But he knows God is not finished with him yet.
