Since Bridges and her husband Jay started attending Blue Ridge in April 2007, they've gone from a couple who never stepped foot in a church to a family on fire to learn more about Christ.

Bridges' life with Jay, and her wonderful boys Wagner and Waylon, seemed full. Then, different friends convinced them to try Blue Ridge. God began moving in their lives and Bridges marvels at the change. In the past, God wasn't even on the radar for her children, because He wasn't a part of her life. Now, she loves hearing her children's prayers and seeing their blossoming interest in God.

Bridges, who was born in Hickory, NC, but has called Lynchburg home since she was 4, didn't grow up in church. But she did have a lot of family love. As her parents’ only child, she said she was on the receiving end of "just a little spoiling" from her grandparents. That's probably why she is a social butterfly with a zest for entertaining and socializing. As an "extroverted introvert," Bridges does well in social situations and tends to be drawn toward making newcomers feel comfortable. Yet, she also loves a little time to herself - sitting in front of a computer, getting a task done.

She wasn't sure what she'd be when she grew up. For a while she enjoyed being Wonder Woman in her Underoos - until she realized that wasn't a practical career option. She toyed with a few other ideas - school teacher (been there, done that) and pharmacist (until she failed chemistry). It took finding a relationship with Christ for things to start falling into place.

Bridges has jumped into her role in Kidz Community feet first, responding to needs and looking for opportunities to serve God and the kids. She's excited to watch as God refines her gifts and uncovers ways she can help the ministry grow. Bridges has talents for hospitality, writing, and processes, and finds that she has to be careful not to "burn the candle at both ends." She admits to "obsessing over details," yet, this was also a strength as she helped with editorial needs around Blue Ridge before coming on staff.

She feels Blue Ridge is sort of a refuge for people who may have had a negative experience with church in the past. Blue Ridge has helped her break down stereotypes and focus on what's really important—a relationship with a living God.

Her favorite Scripture is from John 5:5-11 where Jesus heals a man who had been sick and unable to walk for 38 years. Jesus commanded him to, "Stand up, pick up your mat and walk!" Instantly, the man was healed. She said it reminds her that there comes a point when we just need to turn our problems over to God, and "Stand up, pick up [our] mat and walk!"
