Bill is definitely home-grown. He was born April 2, 1954, in Lynchburg, grew up in Madison Heights, and has lived in the local area his entire life. He works as a manager with BWX Technologies where he has been employed for over 30 years. He volunteered with a local rescue squad for 10 years and coached and served on the Board of Directors of a youth athletic association for 6 years. However, since becoming a Christian in 1993, he has devoted more and more of his time, talents and treasures to Blue Ridge with all of his available time now exclusively dedicated to serving in the local church.
He has a BS in Accounting from Lynchburg College which was good preparation for him to serve as the Treasurer of Blue Ridge for the last several years. He has also served as an Elder since 1997. Bill enjoys volunteering in these positions because it gives him an opportunity to invest in eternity by using his spiritual gifts of leadership, wisdom and teaching to help build the local church. And he does a great job at both because he is analytical, task-oriented, and structured, with good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Some people might call Bill a penny-pincher. He would probably prefer the word frugal. For example, he says he doesn't have a favorite restaurant or food – he just eats whatever is on special. He does really enjoy ice cream and popcorn, so those shouldn't cost too much! He also loves exercising and doing outdoor stuff like hiking, camping and backpacking.
Apparently all that outdoor stuff is what keeps him slim and trim because his wife, Gail, is an excellent cook. They were married as teenagers and have raised four boys and now have eight grandchildren.
Bill says the most satisfying things in life are relationships (God, wife, family, and friends), being organized, and doing things in an excellent way. Judging from the way he does his ministries at Blue Ridge, he must be a pretty satisfied guy!
