Betsy Hudson barely survived her first year of marriage. She had to be hospitalized with five blood clots and nearly died. Then her husband, Mark, had a serious head injury and nearly died. Oh, and then, they went on a picnic at a park and accidentally put their truck in reverse and barely escaped before it sank into a lake.
Thankfully, there is a happy ending: They’re still married, and after being dried out, the truck’s still running!
Betsy first came to Lynchburg to attend Liberty University and went through a bit of culture shock after going to small schools in her upstate New York hometown. Betsy and Mark moved back to New York in 1997. Her father was the pastor of a small country church, and for a while, she was Music Director, Sunday School Coordinator, and Youth Co-Leader there. “It was one of those places where if you were still breathing, you got to serve anywhere and everywhere!” Betsy said.
She’s now using many of her God-given gifts in the Communications Department at Blue Ridge. What she loves most is how she’s growing in God in her new role. “The fact that we stop every day and pray for everything that goes on around here is just phenomenal,” she said.
She and Mark have been attending Blue Ridge since 2003. She enjoys being part of the worship team and loves the children’s programs for their daughter, Mikayla.
“I love that my family has grown so much in the Lord since coming to BRCC,” she said. “My husband and I were both raised in church, but never truly experienced God the way we have since we started attending Blue Ridge. The messages are always digging deeper, and the worship is incomparable.”
Betsy is an avid reader, but she also enjoys going to football and hockey games. (In case you didn’t know, Blue Ridge has its own cheering section at Liberty Flames hockey games.) She’s also a big fan of ice cream—feel free to order a couple scoops of Red Velvet or Vanilla Cake Batter for her if you’re at Mountain Frost.
