 Adam Ragland

Adam joined the BRCC staff in 2007 and worked as our “video guy” until he “graduated” to the Kidz Community in May 2008. He is now the witty and passionate Creative Director for KidStuf. As we teach kids about God’s truths, Adam has an innate ability to capture their attention. He uses cutting-edge elements such as media, drama, sound effects, painting, game shows, fun, and props to engage kids in God’s message. He has a natural ability for technical work—he can be given a video need and quickly see it played out in his head. Adam is quick and eager to tackle such jobs. Just please don’t bother him with anything mundane, play “kissy-poo” in the line at Target, drive 55 mph in the passing lane, or make him drink milk after someone!

Besides listening to a good CD, watching movies, or playing video games (just to check the quality of the sound, of course), Adam enjoys hanging out with his friends and family. He also has a large collection of nonfiction military books, which he has read several times. This fascination has led to what he terms “odd behavior” and ceaseless teasing from his “amazing family!” His parents and older brother and sister all attend and are actively involved at Blue Ridge. He cherishes their time together and considers his brother his “best friend.” His other best friend is his goofball canine partner, Samson.

Adam grew up in Lynchburg and has been attending Blue Ridge for several years. What he enjoys most about BRCC is that, “We aren’t perfect. God knows it's inevitable that we will mess up now and again.” He credits the movement of the church body over the past year to the ministries’ complete reliance on prayer.

God has given Adam a protector’s heart. His favorite scripture is John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” Adam says he would gladly give his life for his friends and his greatest fear is someone he loves being harmed.

Adam considers his life to be a God story. “I can look back through my life and see how messed up I was at one point and how God’s grace was so evident. What’s cool about it is that no matter how far I’ve come, I know it’s not the end of our adventure together!”

His most memorable moment involves his family and his protector’s heart, of course. When he was 10, he was home alone and decided to light the kerosene heater. He was lying beside the toasty fire doing his homework when the phone rang. As he walked back from answering the phone, he turned the corner and saw the heater and the surrounding area engulfed in flames. He tried to douse it with water, but quickly learned that was a bad idea! So he sprung into action, ran around the house finding and rescuing his beloved hamsters. Then he contacted a friend for help and called 911. He still remembers his mom’s face when she arrived home from work to a yard full of fire trucks and ambulances. Fortunately, Adam met her halfway calling out, “It’s okay, mom! I got the hamsters out. It’s okay!”

The only thing we have left to ask Adam is: “When are you going to marry Maria?”
